  1. Big South Fork and a lost dog rant

We're currently at the Bandy Creek CG in The Big South Fork National river and Rec area. Nice Forest Service CG with ele and water.
The area is scenic with a few waterfalls around.

The one sad thing about this area is the lack of dog rescues or even an animal shelter. Don't loose or expect to find a place for a stray in or near Oneida TN.
We found a skinny, starving, injured and very scared dog that came out of the woods following the truck looking for help. It

  2. Wilderness State Park

We stayed at Wilderness SP as all the state parks in the U.P. shut off the water/close dump stations on Oct 15th. We'd like to explore the U.P. more but will have to start a little earlier!

Wilderness is quite nice...lots of hiking/biking trails to try. Went on a lovely drive through the Tunnel of Trees on M19 along the Lake Michigan shoreline. I've attached a few pictures of the area.

  3. Great Food, Great Folks, and Great Swimming

We escaped the summer heat in Virginia Beach with a trip around Michigan on the way to the rally. After a couple of nights in Virginia and Ohio, we stopped to visit The Henry Ford museum in Dearborn. It was fantastic, and we found good local sweet corn. Heading north from there we found a really nice township park at the southern end of Saginaw Bay (Finn Road Township Park), and found more local sweet corn, muskmelon and good sausage from Frankenmuth. We spent a few days near Mackinaw City. Molly ...

  4. Lake Powhatan

We just finished up our week here at Lk Powhatan. It's a great National Forest campground in NC . Most sites are private with a double site in each loop. We just love this area, one week was not nearly enough time and will return in the next year or 2 for a full 2 week stay.

Waterfalls by the hundreds with different degrees of difficulty to hike to them. We ended our week with a great visit with friends who moved to this area over a year ago. Even had some great local talent to entertain.

  5. Update from Keweenaw Peninsula

We’ve had to make a change in plans. The parks in the U.P. of Michigan are still open but are shutting down their water systems and dump stations on Oct. 15th, so we’ve cancelled our reservations at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in the eastern upper peninsula. We now staying at Wilderness State Park (near Mackinaw) Oct. 14 – 20th, then moving on to Metamora-Hadley Rec Area (near Flint) on Oct 20th.

I’ve attached a few more photos from the Fort Wilkins area.
