Depends if you like hearing the fan noise all the time or have it come on and off as needed.
Personally, ours is always on "on".
There should only be 2 screws (black heads) that hold that wall to the Nautilus panel...
I have mine permanently loose to keep an eye on
I've screwed the hose ends together for over 25 years and never had any mold in my hoses. My inline filter gets attached directly to the water source
