Two Hams on the Road

Another State for Molly

Instead of the usual jaunt down to Florida, we traveled from the mid Atlantic to Texas this year. On the way down, we spent a couple of nights near Pensacola, and enjoyed visiting the National Naval Aviation Museum. It is always great to meet other Grand Design owners, and we continued our pattern of seeing Debby at a campground (in NY last summer on the way to the rally, in central Virginia last fall) when we both happened to stop for one night at the same park just outside of Houston. Nice unexpected visit, and only the first other Grand Design we had seen in a week of travel. From there we spent a couple of weeks exploring Rockport, with side trips to Corpus Christi. Fortunately we had left Alabama just before the tornadoes went through. There was a Solitude at the park in Rockport. We spent a couple of nights in San Antonio, and met a family living full time in a Reflection 323BH. We were pleased with Buckhorn Lake RV Resort in Kerrville, TX as a base for exploring the Hill Country. It was great to meet another forum user (JustAGuy) who was parked across the street with his Reflection. We found an off leash dog park on the Guadalupe River in Kerrville where Molly had a nice swim; she has now been swimming in 25 different states. While I was in the visitor center at the Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park, Dave had Molly pose by herself in front of the sign; a park ranger saw them and laughed, thought it was great. The heavy rains were east and south of us, but we saw the effects of high water on the drive home along I20. It was a good trip. We saw more Grand Design units in Texas, only two or three others in nearly 5000 miles.

Looks like you guys made it back OK...sure was good to meet you two. I hope you had few problems. Thanks again for the tip on the propane auto switch-over valve. If we make it out to the east coast in 2017 we will slide by and share a beer.

Sounds like a good time had by all. Molly must of been a happy girl getting that swim in.
Curious , TX vs Fl for snowbirding. For the time you were there it sounds like you kept busy. Would a long term stay keep you busy enough or do you think boredom would set in?

Our socially dysfunctional dog went to Mollys favorite beach (Brohard) and did quite well. It was a busy day there with lots and lots of dogs. Only barked at 2 dogs and 1 person, big achievement for him. He even got his feet wet!
