    Tow vehicles and CCC ratings

I was looking to upgrade my 5er but the unit we were looking at had a higher rating then what my truck would carry. The salesperson,I know I know, tells me that they have a couple of things that they can do and if I have them done there they will re-certify my truck with a new CCC rating. This is one of the biggest RV dealerships in the country. Does this sound right? He mentioned helper bags and spring work. I do use my TV for other uses then RV’ing so I wouldn’t want to degrade it’s ride more then needed. I was curious if the helper bags could be adjustable or what. Just not to familiar with this area of expertise. I do get a bit of sag now that I think air bags could help with but just not sure about the whole recertification thing.

Does not sound right at all, because if it were that easy, it would be done very frequently and I've never heard of this before. They may be able to physically make it more capable, but legally requires a different route. I would get details.

He says he can have it recertified to +500lbs with helper bags and up to +2000lbs with spring work.

From what I've been told, only the vehicle manufacturers can certify their vehicles and that's only done off the assembly line.

He is blowing smoke up you snoot. There is a way to have a vehicle recertified to a higher or different rating, but it's not cheap, AND...it's not by adding air bags and or different springs. Certified and licensed upfitters can do that work, but again, it's not cheap. Think about the businesses that take a stock truck and turn them into hauler beds and such. A certified and licensed upfitter/company is the only way a vehicle's rating numbers can be legally changed

I hear what you are saying but like I said this is a very large RV dealer with branches throughout the US. Not some down the road sell by order RV dealer. It surprised me and I was a little taken aback that they would allow something if it was not true or something that could come back on them.

    How’s this?
“ I understand your concern, a 5th wheels weight is over the rear axle so sagging is less of an issue if we have insured the proper weight of the 5th wheel and truck.

However, if you are still concerned we can add one of two options:

1st: Helper bags – we have spoken about these in the past
2nd – Spring work – We can add up to 2000lbs of CCC in spring work (we want to just add what would be needed as the more we add the stiffer your ride)”

    “ Yes that is correct,

The helper bags we install will give you 500lbs but do not include a compressor.

Your cost would be around $500”

I think when he is saying "CCC" he is simply referring to Cargo Carrying Capacity not any sort of official certification...Yo will likely never get bothered on the highway if your towing with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck and your not required to stop at any of the weigh stations unless your hauling commercially, BUT you do have to be concerned if you ever get into a wreck and your insurance investigates and finds out your were over the listed CCC, they would likely deny your claim.
