String method Is ok for traveling on a relatively flat surface. 4 inches of clearance might not help with speed bumps. Speed bumps (not speed humps) can be as tall as 6 inches and only 1 - 2 ft in length (in direction of travel), although I swear I have seen them much shorter in length.
Speed humps can be found in parking lots and commercial driveways but not permitted on highways per DOT specs.

Where did you get the new stabilizers? Were you able to get the dealer to swap them out for free, or did you have to come out of pocket? I just bought a Reflection 150 240RL and my rear stabilizers scrub every speed bump I go over. Havent had any problems coming in and out of steep parking lots, but speed bumps are a big issue. Mind you I am towing with a 03 dually cummins and with my curt hitch mounted 1 hole up from the lowest setting it sits a little nose high. But on the lowest setting I'd be scared a hard dip or hump at 65-70mph or a wavy back road could cause contact with the top of the bed/tailgate

Do you by chance have a part number for those shorter stabilizers?
