That ^^^^ might happen if you are pulling a flat bed/equipment trailer and hauling heavy AND have the load towards the rear of the axle center, but I've never heard of anyone towing a 5th Wheel Camping type trailer exceeding the GCVWR number before exceeding the payload of the truck. The 5ver camping trailer puts 20% or more of their GVW on the pin and 99.0% of the time you exceed payload long before GCVWR number.

Go with the trucks door post sticker. Pin weight on a 337 is most likely about 3,100#, which will be over for all but the stoutest 3/4 to trucks. My 2002 Sierra 2500HD would be about 500# over.

Factory sticker says GVRW 9200 lbs, GAWR FRT 4670 lbs, and GAWR RR 6084 lbs
CAT scales frt 5600, RR 5600, Trailer axles 9920 Total 18
I am happy and will be keeping my truck.Barry:D

That's because I read the scale sheet wrong Frt axle 4380, RR 5600, Trailer axles 8920 for a total of 18900.
The owners manual says GCWR os 22,000 lbs with a max trailer weight of 14,200 lbs
Side note in owners manual King pin weight between 15-25% of trailer weight up to 3,000 lbs.
I know it still will exceed the sticker and book figures when I get it fully loaded but I can live with that.
I did notice that braking is marginal and the 2500 has always had poor brakes having only 12" rotors. I am thinking of upgrading to 14" rotors but that has a domino effect as it would require 18-20" rims and tires. I just replaced the tires 20K miles and have a 60K left on them. I know you never have enough brakes until you need them and then it is to late, Decisions decisions.
Xrated thank you for your input aand concerns for my safety and others also.Barry:D

Barry, you are still starting off 780 lb overloaded....if in fact your truck's GVWR is 9200 lbs like you posted. As you load the trailer is going to get worse.

Performance/safety in towing is more important than legal stuff or crunching numbers further. Only you can be the judge of how well/safely it brakes and handles on the road with the upgrades you have installed. Maybe putting better brakes (disc) on RV is a solution to braking. I have several associates towing 5ers/ 3/4 ton safely for years with numbers that are not up to standard. Enjoy! Appreciate your feedback and that of all. Called an "education".

I agree that disc brakes on the trailer would be money well spent. I actually can’t believe they’re allowed to sell trailers over 10K GVWR without disc brakes, especially given the rather pervasive overloading problem in the RV community.
