Away From the 5th Wheel for 2 Months in Florida

I am currently in a 5th wheel at a campground in Central Florida. I will be away from the Campground for two months in July and August without my 5th wheel. I am planning to keep the air conditioning on set at apx. 82F. Water will be off and all food taken out and refrigerator empty with doors open - and a neighbor will check inside my unit every week. I just don't want to shut it down completely due to the humidity here, and am willing to pay the electric. Does anyone have any other suggestions or comments ?

a de-humidifier might not be a bad idea either.

We live in Central FL and we haven't had any problems storing our camper even without A/C. As long as you are sure to take ALL the food out you should be okay.

A de-humidifier is not necessary, especially if you have the A/C running.

I think it would be beneficial to lower your temperature to 78 degrees though, because the longer the A/C runs the lower the humidity is inside the coach. 78 degrees would be a good temp to protect the coach and would not be too high on the electric bill.

I would treat all my slide seals before leaving even if you close the unit up.

You might want to consider some sort of tire shield since you'll be sitting still for so long.

Thank you, I'll give that some thought but sitting for two months isn't long ... I've been sitting here living in it all Winter. I've had the 5th wheel almost three years and no tire shields. The tires are always in the shade with the slides out. Now, I may consider pulling the slides in, so tire shields might come in handy. By the time I make the next trip the tires will be almost 4 years old (10,000 miles) so I will likely be getting new tires anyway.

Have you thought about Maxxair Roof Vent Covers on all roof vents and a good vent fan on one?

We live in the south, and the humidity is not so bad if (1) you're not there and (2) you have some air movement.

I just wouldn't want to leave any a/c unit on 24/7 for 2 months. When dust covers the air filter, my a/c unit starts spitting water.

Upon your return, you can have the trailer cooled down safely in just a few minutes.
