Electrical Surge Protectors
2017 Ford F350 Dually/2017 Momentum 395M Toy Hauler; Question has anyone installed a surge protector on the 50amp power cord? Why doesn't Grand Design come up with an optional SURGE PROTECTOR that could be installed at the factory? Any suggestions on what to purchase would be appreciated! Thanks, Duane and Sherry

I had mine installed by the dealer. I added a remote display in the unit by the panel

Electrical Surge Protectors
I just installed a Progressive Industries hardware EMS...not too difficult; hardest part was cutting the power cord going to power distribution center

Search the forum - there are many posts on this topic. The Progressive Industries units seem to be the gold standard. They are also MUCH more than mere surge protectors. They monitor for bad grounds, over- and under-voltage, etc., and take your RV off-line if anything dangerous should occur. They can be had in either in-line (plug in at the pedestal) or "hard-wired" (installed inside the rig). I chose the hard-wired for security (theft) and convenience reasons.

jbaily...do you have two remotes for that EMS? I've been trying to decide where to place mine.
Here's a pic of my placement. I added plywood to mount the unit off floor in case of water leak. I disconnected the power distribution connections in order to wire this EMS up behind the drawers, then after all connections made and EMS mounted, reconnected to power distribution center.

Jeff,
I did purchase a second remote and a switch so I can switch from the utility side of the rig and inside, so I can monitor from both. Overkill probably, but makes me feel better. I really like your idea of mounting up off the floor, I may end up going back and putting some blocks in between the unit and the floor. With the hole right next to it that leads into the underbelly if there was some kind of catastrophic leak, I would hope even just an inch would allow for enough clearance for the water to drain out. Nice instillation.Ben & Camille

I know these posts are a little old but could some one send a picture of where and how they installed their EMS? I can't access any of the pictures that have been posted, I get a message that says I am not authorized to use that part of the site??

I installed mine in my Momentum 399TH behind the wall in the basement. The most time consuming part was emptying the basement. Install is easy, disconnect the AC input cable from the Electrical Management system (EMS), connect to the surge suppressor, connect the surge suppressor output to the EMS. reinstall the partition. The divider between the basement storage and the compartment where the electrical connections, water heater etc were connected was only toenailed in with screws, so I added an upright 2X4 section to attach to so the wall doesn't get so chewed up. I also installed a sliding plexiglass window and some LED lights behind the partition.
