Mud Guard Tip For Ram Owners

I wish I could take credit for this, but I cain't - I saw it on a Cummins forum and it worked!

The issue stems from newer Rams that have the factory wheel flares and factory installed running boards and the installation of Ram OEM front wheel mud guards (MG's). When trying to install the MG's, they hit the front of the running boards such that the molded MG doesn't fit flush with the fender contour. The issue is that the running boards are too far forward. The fix? If you swap the running boards (left side to right side and right side to left side), it results in the running boards moving back about 3" thereby eliminating the contact between the running board and the MG.

I had the exact same issue and this fixed it. And if you look at the truck, you can't tell that the running boards were swapped. I would gladly buy a beer (or two) to the person who discovered this fix. Here's some pics.

Very cool, having that 3" toward the back doesn't hurt either, I have stood on the back side of mine to get to a box of stuff in the front of the bed.
    Take care,

I wonder if this will work with my full length running boards. This has been a source of frustration for me.

Not sure how long your full length running boards are, but I bet if you crawl under the truck, you might be able to take some measurements to see if it's possible. I'm betting it is.

I bought after market Guards from Weather Tech, made for the new ram with the flares and they fit fine without hitting. About an inch to spare.

Yeah - I'm aware of that. The thread was just for the Dodge OEM mud guards if one happened to have bought those. My OEM's were a "gift" from the dealer and I'm all about FREE!

I decided to look a gift horse in the mouth and busted the chops of my salesman for not including the rear mud guards. He then proceeded to make me look foolish by saying, "Uhhhh....Dodge doesn't make an OEM molded mud guard for Ram duallys." I didn't feel too bad since I've learned to like eating crow a looooooong time ago.

BTW - Weather Tech doesn't make a molded rear mud guard for Ram duallys as well.
