    Need Help ASAP

I brought my 349M home Thursday night from storage, have only had the unit 5 months and camped in it 3 times. We were sitting in it Friday night out front of our house and the unit still has that NEW smell. Went to get something out of it this afternoon and it totaly smells like rotten eggs. Both propane tanks were turned off and the worse concentration of the odor is in the basement area where the water hook up are located. Could this smell be coming from the Black Tank? I drained it and flushed it multiple times after our last camping trip. We are supposed to be taking off next week for an extended weekend. I need help, I am very new to this. Has anyone else had this problem? Thank you for any advise you can give.

    Greg

Usually smells like that are in the coach, coming from valves under sinks. Out of curiosity, you say you dumped and flushed well...did you leave some water in the black tank? You never want to leave it dry, as any solids that did not get flushed would dry up and cause problems, including providing a bad odor.

Is it plugged up? If so make sure your battery isn't somehow overcharging and boiling. And if so disconnect power and ventilate asap! These vapors smell just like rotten eggs and not to scare you but can be explosive.
    Check this asap!

And if all above checks out ok, the I'm with Steve. Put some water in the P-traps and a few gallons in the black tank with some treatment.

    Hey Steve,
Thanks for replying so quickly, I feel that there was some water left in the black tank, just don't know how much. Do you have any recommendations for any solutions that can be put in the tank to help eliminate the odor?

    Thanks,

    Greg

Do you have any black tank treatment to add? If not, get you some soon as you can. This is what I do. After dumping and flushing the tank throughly, drop a treatment pack (or we also like the RV Rid X ) or 2-4 oz of the Rid X into the tank with 3-5 gallons of water. It helps keep things fresh and from turning to crust/solidifying between trips. We also occasionally add some Rid X down the sink drains too as they can put off an terrible odor if you get food down them from cooking and dishes.

I use aquakem, but there are several brands out there. I use packets with the solution inside, not the liquid. Some people use a method called the "Geo Method", consisting of water softener and washing detergent. I ALWAYS have a minimum of 4-5 gallons of water in our black tank. Scott made a good point, if your battery is in that department, it could be the problem. Do as he said until you can check it out. Some batteries have exploded over time.

I find the RidX product to be VERY effective. My number 1 go to solution. I have been trying the GEO method and so far so good. Need to do some math as the softeners are expensive for the quantity used. RidX might be the bettter cost effective solution.
