I used an inexpensive windshield shade from wal mart. Removed the interior skylight cut the shade to fit. Duct taped in place and reassembled. Allows soft white light in while controlling the vast majority of heat and light.

To clarify, are you referring to a skylight (non-opening) or a roof vent (opening). If you're referring to a roof vent, you can do what several folks have suggested and buy the pillow that is made to fill the opening and block the sun and act as an insulator. Or you could simply add a vent cover such as the Maxxair or Maxxair II. It will block the direct sunlight and depending on the color you choose (white, black, smoke), you can let some of the light come thru or block nearly all of it.
If you are talking about a skylight, then your options are more limited. The most effective solution would be to remove the inner trim ring and pull out the inner clear plastic window and have it tinted with a UV blocking film and then reinstall it. It Weill still allow light thru but block the majority of the heat.Jeff and Debbie

We have a similar issue with the skylight in the shower allowing light - too much light- to shine through in the mornings.. It shines right into the bedroom.. I went to my local marine canvas person with the inside plastic housing. They made a piece of fabric that we simply snap on when we go to bed and can unsnap anytime.. Its a Sunbrella type material so no mold or mildew ...

Amazon sells that same one - I bought one and spray-painted the plastic to match the wood on the kitchen ceiling above my island (S2930RL). Cost was about $45 and it works great so far. The bathroom skylight and the kitchen skylight are the same size in our camper.
