Door Dead Bolt Unable To Fully Latch

The door dead bolt will not fully engage into the door jamb/frame. It appears that the side wall of the trailer was not cut out from behind the latch.

Has anyone else had this problem? Would this be as simple as using a knife or drill bit to remove the area behind the strike plate?

I've cut out a bit before and it worked fine after that.

Thanks, good to know. What type material is behind the latch. i.e. aluminum, wood, plastic, etc.

I think mine was a thin layer of wood. It was also on my last trailer, so I can't look know.

Yup - I used a sturdy pocket knife to "relieve" some wood to make my deadbolt work.

Not wood but rather aluminum frame around the door jamb. The outer 1/4" was wood material but it is affixed to aluminum bar. Maybe they made the 2500RL more sturdy. Does anyone know if the deadbolt has an adjustment that limits the travel into the jamb. In my situation you can turn the key but it doesn't turn enough to securely latch the bolt. I have to wonder how this defect made it pass factory inspection and also through PDI.

I've cleaned out the wood portion of the deadbolt but still not enough to close the deadbolt all the way. How has everyone cleared out the metal frame portion?
