    Question 3150BH sway control

    Hello,

We just ordered our 2017 3150bh. This is my first camper so I am new to picking out the right hitch. I am looking at Reese Straight Line and Equalizer. The gross weight of this TT is 8995 (according to GD website). So 10-15% would be 899-1349lbs hitch weight. Now if I add cargo to the bed of my truck (2005 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD) behind the axle this number will increase.

Are my numbers wrong? Which hitch do you all like? Would helper bags be an alternative to handle extra weight in the bed? Any help is appreciated.

    Thank You
    Charles

Equalizer is generally accepted as the standard by which all other hitches are judged.
I'm running a 10-year old Reese Dual Cam, I just had to upgrade the bars for the new trailer.
Blue Ox is another hitch that's getting quite a following but I have no experience with it.
Air bags are a band aid for an overloaded truck, I'm not a fan of them.

we use the equalizer on our 2016 GD 313rlts. it's easy to use and have had no problems with it. the truck stays level and the trailer stays right behind with no sway.

So I have decided on the equalizer hitch. One issue I have just realized is that my truck has a class IV hitch which is good for 1200lbs. Not a big deal if I keep an eye on my hitch weight. Question I have is should I just use the 12,000lb WDH or go for the 14,000lb?

Thanks again for all the information and help.

Flent19, I also have a Ram 2500 but mine is a 5.7. I just bought the 3170bh. I am wondering what you had done and how it has worked out for you. I was concerned about the hitch on my truck as well, I called the dealer and spoke to the service department. They looked up my hitch and said that it was rated for 1400 lbs with weight distribution.
