Best Hitch for a 2017 Solitude 300 GK-R and 2017 RAM 2500 Diesel Crew Cab Short Bed

I will be towing a 2017 Grand Design Solitude 300GK-R with a 2017 Dodge RAM 2500 Diesel Crew Cab short bed with the factory 5th wheel hitch prep package. I believe Demco DM8550034 and DM6099 is my best choice. Tell me if I'm wrong. A couple of questions: 1) Will I need to drill holes in the bed for the outrigger bar? 2) Will I need to buy a locking plate in addition to the rail adapter because this RV comes with a Rota Flex TrailAir pinbox? Thanks.

I am also considering the Pullrite 2700 16K Autoslide. Thanks for the tire suggestion.

will.barnes - Just check your numbers before hitching this all up. The on-line specs for your truck show a payload capacity of less than the 300 GK-R 2635 lb dry pin weight alone. The label on the truck door jamb will have the exact payload capacity for your specific truck.

will.barns--you can see in our signature we have a 2700 16K Superglide so let me share some thoughts on that and your potential payload very overweight situation.

Our 2700 16K Superglide is a tremendous well built, heavy duty, awesome working autoslide hitch.......some refer to it as the Cadillac of slide hitches for good reason and we have learned why in our three years of use. Being well built, it is, however, heavy - weighing it at 197 spins (lbs.) Add this to your 300 GDRV pin weight + DW + minimal stuff in P/U and your payload weight will be 3000lbs. +/- BEFORE even loading your 300. I would suspect that you will be 500 +/- lbs. over your P/U door payload sticker right out of the box. Then, loading the 300 on average could place another 500+/- lbs. on your pin. 1000lbs. over your P/U payload not (to mention possibly tires and rear springs ratings) seems worthy of re-evaluation. Do folks do this.....yes all the time but the potential for problems or even disaster to you and others......well you fill in the blanks.

I'll echo what others are saying... we initially pulled out Reflection 337 (2,640 lbs. pin weight empty) with a 2500HD 2WD CC diesel (more payload than 4WD). Loaded, the pin weight was up to about 3,200 lbs. which put us over the rear axle rating and within 100 lbs. of the rear tire ratings - and that was using a 40 lb. Andersen Ultimate hitch! The combo you are proposing with the Solitude will be way over limits for a 2500 - especially with the addition of a 200+ lb. hitch. Safety first.
