Picked up my 2017 F350 Super Duty
I ordered my truck back in November. I just picked it up on Weds. Now I'm just waiting for the weather to improve so I can get our Reflection out of hibernation. I ordered a F350 this time so I would stay within the limits of truck. Hopefully my trailer will sit reasonably level with enough bed clearance when I hook up. The new Super Duty is about 1-1/2" taller than my last truck.2023 Reflection 150 Series 260RD

Grampscamper, congrats. As you know mine came in a week ago... I am sure you will love it! What are you using for a hitch? Never mind. I see that in your signature...

Hi Bob: It sure is. I feel like a kid in the candy store right now that can't reach the jar. The truck is here but I have no idea when the 303rls will show up. It was ordered at the end of February.... the wife and I agreed to hold off till we had a solid delivery date on the truck before doing the 5th wheel. I think I have settled on a Demco Highjacker autoslide for my hitch. I. Have gone round and round on this. It drives the wife crazy because I over research everything.... the Demco is a drop in with the Ford pucks and the autoslide means I don't need to think about it. I really liked the Andersen hitches but just am not convinced that the turning radius is there...
To keep my mind off of the camper , I am heading out to the garage today to put rear wheel wells, mud flaps, and an amp research bed step on the truck....2017 F350 Bronze Fire XLT short bed SuperCab, SRW power stroke Diesel, 3.31 rear end, 18" AT tires

You're going to love the Reflection. We gave the 303 some serious consideration. I had the dealer install Gatorback splash guards because they offered to install them for free. I'm like you, I research everything to the point I drive myself crazy. I decided on the B&W Companion fixed hitch because I remove it occasionally. It comes apart in two manageable pieces. The auto sliders are just too heavy. I did some experimenting when I got it. I can turn to an extreme angle without contacting the cab but I do have to pay attention. I lost a window last year with my old hitch that was mounted two inches closer to the cab. 5 years never needed a slider then one day not paying attention I broke a window.
Keep us posted when you get the Reflection. I would love to see pictures.
edit: not sure why it rotated the one picture.

Hi Bob
Yea, the weight was a big issue for me too and looked at both the B&W and the Curt hitches for that very reason. They separate. It looks like you are fine in your turning, my concern is a lot of places we camp are old state campgrounds which are never level. I just have the fear of that off axis turn into a campsite, thus the desire for a slider with the short bed truck. Maybe just paranoia on my park but..... My solution to the weight is a 1 ton hoist from harbor freight for $40. I have a huge LVL beam in my garage I can attach it to and just back the truck under it for taking the hitch in and out. Now to figure out how to offload it from the truck once I place the order.
We went with the 303 because of length and many places we camp It actually is longer than I wanted but the layout and design won out. We really wanted a unit we could get to the fridge and bathroom without moving a slide.
Thanks for your (and everyone's help here). This is my 1st 5th wheel even though I have been towing for years and have learned a lot but have much, much more to go...

Jim, sounds like you have a great solution for removing your hitch. The auto slider does take away the fear of contacting the cab. It sure can be costly.
You mentioned the Amp bed step. Are you installing the one that mounts on the side just in front of the rear wheel or the one that mounts near the bumper? I'm looking at the Amp side step so I can reach my hitch.

Hi Bob:
Yes a slider is costly (isn't everything with this hobby 😀. There is a manual slider version of your hitch for the Ford puck system but it is like $1600. The best price I have been able to find on the hitch you got is about $950. I found I can get the Demco Hitchhiker autoslide for $1054 delivered from dyers http://www.dyersonline.com/demco-ums...-hijacker.html. For me the $100 difference is worth the piece of mind for the auto slide.
As far as the truck. I just put on the bed step at the back bumper ( see pictures). I ordered the truck with the extended running boards so I had a step and could reach the hitch handle. As an FYI the bedstep and bedstep 2 has a $50 rebate on them till the end of the month if that helps. I bought mine through Jet.com as they were $30-60 less then everyone else on the step.2017 F350 Bronze Fire XLT short bed SuperCab, SRW power stroke Diesel, 3.31 rear end, 18" AT tires

I screwed up and didn't order the extended running boards. I missed them in all the excitement of ordering a new truck. I'll have to add the side step. Thanks for the pictures and the heads up on the rebate.

Will the dealer consider changing out the running boards for you? I know that some dealers don't order any trucks with running boards and just put them on at the dealer based on what the customer wants.
