    Black tank sensor

My new 29RS black tank sensor always reads empty. One idea is that it may be a loose ground wire. Any suggestions as to where I should start to correct this problem? I don't live close to a Grand Design rv facility so I'm hoping there is a solution I can do myself.
    Thanks,

I’m having the same problem. Right from the dealer the black tank always reads empty. My family and I (wife and three kids) just stayed in it for 10 days. No black tank overfill issues, but it definitely wasn’t empty when we went to dump it. The sensor reads empty no matter what. I tried flushing the tank 3 times with clean water, until the water coming out was pretty clear, and that didn’t fix it. No matter what I do, the indicator always reads empty.

On our 2018 337 RLS the black tank reads 3/4 full all the time.

I would guess more than 75% of all RV's have black tank sensors that aren't accurate. The reason is because toilet paper and other solids get caught on the sensors. In some cases you can clean the sensors by doing multiple flushes and/or pulling the RV for a couple hours with the tank 75% full of "clean" water (after dumping the tank) but that is usually a temporary fix at best.

Yup I would guess that most black tanks read FULL most of the time. By flushing I can get mine to read 1/3 full. So if I want to know when it is full I wait until the toilet "burps". Seems when full it covers the vent pipe and burps the tank though the toilet.

the black tank sensors are useless. I monitor mine by draining it down some after a few days.

General question - why isn't the SeaLevel system used by more manufacturers? I've seen a retail price of <$300 for the aftermarket 4 tank sensor system. Not sure how much more $$ it would add over the standard sensor system. My FIL's sailboat has the SeaLevel system. He has never had a problem with them.

The factory system probably costs $10. That's why they use them. I actually rarely have trouble with my sensors but I rinse the black tank every time I empty it.
