It increases the psi like you would expect. This nitrogen vs. air argument has gone on in many different posts with writers on both sides of the issue. Basically air is 80% nitrogen anyway, if a tire is low it is best to fill it up. If you're on the side that nitrogen is necessary then you'll go to a tire store that specializes in nitrogen fill. Best to research for yourself, here and on the internet in general.

Well, if you add enough air the tire is then properly inflated with 78% nitrogen.
You do not need 100% nitrogen.
It's more important that your tires are properly inflated than what you inflate them with.

I have found that motorcycle shops are a much better resource for nitrogen for tires. The local Yamaha shop has been my source since I stopped at the local RV dealership and they said I could schedule an appointment two weeks away and bring it in!

We had a flat tire on our rig when we went to the storage facility to pick it up to take in for service. We filled it with the air hose at the facility, and stopped a couple of times enroute to the service center to check the pressure. There was no air loss during the trip. But there was no issue having "normal" air in the one tire.

I know this topic has been discussed ad nauseum, but it always makes me wonder. How do people purge the atmospheric air from the tires in the first place when they put what they think is pure nitrogen in? In other words, if you want pure nitrogen in the tires, you need to remove the air that is already in there when the tire is mounted. Is there a special vacuum pump that you can suck the air out with before filling it with nitrogen?

As was said, maintaining correct air pressure is more important than what is in the tire. I have not talked to anyone that told me you could not mix the two. JMHO

IMHO, 100% nitrogen in tires for everyday use is just another way for scammers to part fools from their money. Earth's atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, anyway:

It will not damage anything to add regular air to a tire which contains nitrogen. As stated, the atmosphere is comprised of 78% nitrogen anyway. The only real advantage that 100% nitrogen offers is that it is more stable with temperature changes but on automobile and rv tires it would be negligible. It is, however, noticeable in aircraft tires when the temperature changes from 100 degrees on the surface to a -10 degrees at altitude causing the tire to expand and contract constantly during ascents and descents.
