How big?
Hi,
I'm new to this site, but could use some advice. Currently we tow a 26BHS travel trailer with no problems. We are about to purchase a Grand Design 5th wheel and want to be sure that it isn't too big for us to enjoy.
We have a 2013 F350 diesel 4 wheel drive 6'6"bed.
The 5th wheels we are considering are:
Reflection 337RLS: 36'1"L, 96"W, 12'4"H, 13,995GVWR
Solitude 305RE: 35'11"L,101"W,12"9"H, 16,000GVWR
Solitude 368RD: 18'11"L,101"W,12'9"H, 16,000GVWR
We currently are long weekend and short vacation campers in Michigan. We think that we would like to try an extended trip around the country.
Two questions:
I plan to buy a Pullrite sliding hitch - any comments?
I think the 368RD is too long for us to enjoy - especially backing into our driveway - but does the additional 3' in length make that much difference? Does the Reflection"s 2000# lighter weight make a big difference?
Thanks for the help.
Bob

Re: How big?
Hi Bob, and welcome to the forum!
As you can see from my signature, we have a 2012 F350, SRW, FX4, short bed, and a Solitude 369RL. The F350 tows our Solitude without any problems and the weights are all below maximum. We also have the Pullrite Slider hitch and we are well pleased with it. Now that I am use to it, I don't give any thought to sharp turns going forward or backing the camper into a site.

Re: How big?
Well we bought the 369rl with the maximum weight of 16000 lbs. Empty it is only a few pounds short of 13,000 lbs.. Having said that we pull with a 16k Curt slider in a Silverado 2500hd duramax. I just installed air springs to raise the bed 2 inches when towing. Our dealer uses the same rig to deliver units when necessary. Your 350 should be able handle anything Grand Designs makes in my opinion.

Re: How big?
You would have no problems with the Reflection 337, the Solitude's are at the upper end of a SRW truck. The radius front cap on all of the Grand Designs allow for good turning with a short bed truck. Probably around 80% turn, maybe someone from Grand Design could chime in with the exact turn radius.

Re: How big?
Hi Bob,
We are towing a 2014 Solitude 369RL with our 2013 F350 crewcab FX4, short bed, single rear wheel. At almost 39' this is the longest 5th wheel we have towed but we certainly do enjoy it. The truck has had absolutely no problem towing our unit, and we have never felt unstable, even in crosswinds.
We did have a 2005 HitchHiker Discover America that was 35' long and I really don't notice the difference in length when towing, just when looking at places to park.
Good luck making your decision.

Re: How big?
Thank you all for the input. I'm feeling more like I can pull any Grand Design 5th wheel except the Momentum.
