Replacing the Steps With Quad Steps

I absolutely love the look of the Aluminum steps, but tri-steps with a 9" rise is just too much for my knees, and not to mention my height (I'm only 5'2").
Quad steps offer 7 1/2 inch rise, which is easier to go up and down.

Which do you recommend? Stromberg, Ekhart, or some other?

We thought about putting in four steps, but loved the aluminum steps and how easily they fold in. Our solution was to buy an adjustable standalone step. Camping World sells them relatively cheaply.

Re: Replacing the Steps With Quad Steps

Like you, I too love the aluminum steps, and I actually tried a stand along step, thinking I just needed the 4th step. It's the 9in rise that's giving me issues. I've had knee surgery on both knees and my knees protest the higher rise.

My friend has quad steps on her Columbus, and they are indeed easier to go up and down.

Renee...you need to petition LCI to make a 4 step version of what you have.

    FYI,
It appears LCI may have a quad step version of the tread lite steps. It might be worth a call to them to see if they are available. Their literature says that there is a quad step coming.

Re: Replacing the Steps With Quad Steps

    Thanks everyone for the comments

@renee, I'm going to consider this topic closed unless I hear differently from you. I'm not very familiar with the Stromberg or Elkhart steps you mentioned. As a general rule of thumb, when it comes to different styles or types of aftermarket parts your RV dealer is going to be your best source for information as they may carry the part in stock, be able to order it for you or even show you an example of it installed on a RV they have in stock. Your dealer can also help ensure the aftermarket entry step you choose fits the hole opening in the sidewall and gets attached correctly. They can also discuss riser heights (which may vary) on the various aftermarket quad entry steps to ensure the most ergonomic step for you.

I do need to add that modifying your RV could affect your warranty as the aftermarket parts, installation and any potential damage caused by the modification is not covered by either of our limited product warranties. Please contact your dealer or our Warranty Dept. (our phone number in my signature, below) if you have further questions.

Hope this helps and happy camping! ~ Janice

I know this is an old thread, but GD does now have a great 4 step made by Torklift that is now available. I just installed these and they are rock solid. Just takes a little more effort to deploy, but well worth it.
