Tow Vehicle - Auxilary Fuel Tank?

Does anyone have experience with using an auxiliary fuel tank in their tow vehicle (e.g. brands, features, likes/dislikes, worth it)? We're relatively new to RV'ing and in planning our first long trip for this summer (around 2,400miles), I realize that we'll be limited to around 230 miles on our 2017 Ram 3500. (Rationale: 32gal diesel, average 9mpg towing in mixed terrain and keeping a 20% safety margin). I've used a few different iPhone apps to map out Truck Stop-style refueling points so we don't have to unhitch our 41 foot 5th wheel at the station because of low overhead clearance, tight turns in/out, etc. However, those truck stops seem to be located in clusters near the end of our range. I appreciate any advice.

I would go with Titan also. They don't have a replacement tank for my truck, RAM 2500 CCSB 4X4, so I am going to probably do the spare tire version which adds 30 gallons. It's a pretty cool setup: Spare Tire Aux Tank

I was stopping every 100 miles to fuel up. Worked pretty good in the east. Then we started heading more west. Amazed to see a sign that read "No services for 68 miles.". I added a 40 gallon auxiliary tank with a drip fill (diesel only). Now I fill once a day. Usually after we have parked for the night.

The extra 35 gallons of diesel weighs 248 pounds, the tank weighs around 100 pounds.

What did it end up costing to get your Titan tank installed? I'm looking at that same option.

    Thanks, John

I am interested in adding an aux tank to my 2016 3500 HD SRW. I have a ReTrax retractable tonneau cover. I found one that should work with it. It is made by Transfer Flow and is 37 gallons. Anyone have this with the ReTrax?

I have my own shop, so I replaced the tank myself, 4-5hrs. Had the local dealership re flash trip computer telling it we now have a 50 gal tank.

I also installed a 40gal RDS combo Fuel tank/tool box combo (Model#72775). Got it from Northern during one of their sales.
It not only adds the ability to travel a full days-worth of miles and refuel when stopped for the night but it also holds a jack, jack stands and a few tools to boot.
I also like that it is low profile so its hidden under the Truxedo bed cover when I'm not towing.
