    Re: Dutch Oven

    Hi everyone!

If you organize a rally and you are willing, Grand Design RV would love to help out or participate in some way.

I only ask that I get some of this awesome cooking I keep reading about.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

    Re: Dutch Oven

    Hi WhittleBurner,

I enjoy my cast iron cookware as well. Enjoy fixing a dump peach cobbler, as well as slumgullion stew, and other things. Also fixed a small grill top that fits on top of my chimney charcoal starter, use it to fix my camp coffee while the charcoal is getting ready to use on the dutch oven. When the coffee starts perking the charcoal is about ready.

Dutch Oven? The modern version is the Crock Pot.

And we use the Crock Pot, gas grill and electric skillet all the time when cooking in the campgrounds.

I also keep a crock pot, 2 ddifferent creatures with simular end results. You can walk away for the day with the crock pot and return to a dinner ready to eat, which is why I keep one. The crockpot is something anyone can cook with.

But for those cool days when you are just chillin around the campsite enjoying a campfire the DO makes some mighty fine meals. It does take a learned skill to perfect cooking in the DO but thats part of the fun.

I LOVE cooking in my DO. I have 2 - a 10" and a 14" I just purchased and cannot WAIT to use! I also picked up the Camp Maid DO 4-piece combo set and I'm very excited to be able to just carry a 14" DO around in the canvas carrying bag I bought with a bag of charcoal and ready to cook!. Check it out at http://campmaid.com/ -- to be honest, the price was a bit much for me until I found a deal on Woot where I got the 4-piece set for half off.

Some of my favorite things to make in my DO - cakes of all kinds, whole roasted chicken, root veggies, stews, soups, roast beef...

I'll be trying out my new set in two weekends, cooking for my camp mates and I while we set up our camp site for 2 weeks of tent camping.

Did I mention I'm excited and can't wait to try it out?

I saw those sets on woot! They tempted me but already have the CampChef DO table. Easier on the back . I don't take the 14" unless we are group camping or want pizza on the trip, that puppy is heavy!.
    The Mair lid is great,
I have a short and long one. Worth the money if you use the DO often.

Try pizza, it turns out pretty darned good. If your 14 has legs on the lid you can flip it upside down and do pizza in the lid for easier removal.

I've always wanted to try pizza, but my little 10" wouldn't make very big pizzas so I never bothered. Now that I have the 10" and the 14", I'm going for it!
