    Opinion needed on OEM Mattress

What is the general consensus on the mattress that came with your GD? Our new Reflection is coming with a non-specific pillow-top. We could not accurately judge the quality or comfort of it by lying on it in 20 below temperatures, it just felt cold and hard. Did you find yours acceptable as is, requiring a mattress topper, or needing outright replacement?

We went with a mattress topper, the bed was a little stiff for the wife.

    Hi Greg & Lisa

When we got our Reflection, we put a 3" Costco Memory Foam topper on the mattress . . . thinking (based on internet reading) that we would soon have to get a better mattress. That was nearly 3 years ago. We use our trailer 4 to 5 months every winter (snowbirds) and the original mattress plus topper is still quite comfortable.

Greg & Lisa--after sleeping (not that well) for a few decades on usually subpar RV mattresses, Carol said after testing out the factory mattress which came with our 303, time to get a good quality mattress. We bought a Gel mattress just about 3 years ago and have been extremely pleased with it......we should have done so with our previous RVs but I think our 303 may have been our first RV with a full size queen (60" X 80") rather than the RV shorter queen (60" X 75".)

The gel mattress is obviously more heavy than the RV mattress which makes raising the under bed storage platform more challenging but since we do not access it that often that was/is a minor trade off.

We could not stand ours in the 350m and got a $400 memory foam from overstock.com that we love.

We went online and bought a 9" bed-in-a-box brand. Very happy.

If you search the forum you will find a number of threads on this topic. Consensus is that the OEM mattresses are somewhere between fair and a P.O.S. Most have either added a foam topper or replaced the mattress altogether (as we did).

Let the dog have it in the garage. We replaced ours with a 11" gel foam Brentwood mattress in a box....better than mine at home. Warning it's like a rock if it's below 50

Ours "sucks". Put a 3" topper on it and it still sucks. Will replace this year. The worst mattress ever, and we have owned many RV's. Don't know why GD would ever use a mattress like this when the rest of the unit is excellent.

It depends on trailer model and year. We traded in a 2017 Imagine 2800GH and the mattress was horrible. We replaced it with a $200, 10" memory foam mattress from Amazon that was much better.

The pillow top mattress that came with our 2017 Reflection 337RLS was pretty good quality and comfortable. We only slept on it only one night and I liked it but my wife insisted we use the memory foam we got for the Imagine so we wouldn't have wasted the $200.

The new build Reflection mattress is an upgraded pillow top. It was slightly on the firm side. I believe that a 2-3" memory foam topper would make it as comfortable as the $4,000 Tempur-Pedic at home.

So don't do anything yet until you get the trailer and try it out. If you want it softer just buy a memory foam topper from Amazon.
