Having seals inspected, should I get them repacked even if there is no leak?

I am bringing my 2016 Reflection 5th wheel in to my dealer next week for a recall. I asked them to do an bearing seal inspection on Lipperts dime while its there. Should I ask them to repack the bearings even if there is no leak? We are planning a 4000+ mile trip in July and I don't want to run into the problem on that trip.

Including its trip here from the factory I figure there is around 1600 miles on my Reflection so far. I don't see any obvious evidence of a leak, but haven't looked really hard (pulled the wheels).

    Thanks,

I would, but chances are they will already have issues and be covered by LCI. Good luck.

Lippert requires that new grease seals be installed whenever hubs are pulled. I can't imagine any tech pulling hubs and replacing grease seals and not repacking bearings. That would never make sense.

Not only that, I would wager that there will be contamination and you will end up with all new brakes anyway.

Not only do you want the bearings repacked but you want them washed out and new seals, preferably a quality seal such as a National Seal by Federal Mogul. It is unwise to combine two different types of grease. Besides you will not believe what the grease looks like that comes from the factory. More like chocolate pudding than grease, very thin! My trailer had only a total of 1100 miles when I inspected the brakes. They were covered on all four wheels. Lippert sent new assemblies complete with seals. I did not use their seals but went to my local Bearings Inc. store for new seals.

Thank you all for the information. This will help me make sure I get things done right when I bring it in. The recall is on the MB Sturgis propane regulator on my unit. I was made aware of it when I contacted Grand Design about a problem I was having with my fireplace. I was told because it was a federal recall it had to be taken care of by an authorized service center.
