As for the Valterra valve on the end of the sewer pipe...

I purchased one due to some residual water left in the pipe surprising me when I pull the cap. I haven't used it much since the Valterra sticks out a bit - nearly beyond the trailer wall - and I'm concerned it will get hit by road debris or somehow damaged from sticking out too far.

    Am I overthinking this?

No, I have the same concerns. I don't tow with the valves on. Unfortunately, it kinda defeats the purpose of having them.

I never take the Valterra off, never had a problem.

Well, we have another trip next week so I'll put the valve on and give it a shot. Appreciate the feedback

Disclaimer - Doesn't mean something can't happen. Maybe install a set screw to make sure it doesn't fall off. Just be aware it's there when driving near obstacles.

Roger that - good idea on the set screw.

Another Q: Did you cut the 'leash' that keeps the cap with the original sewer pipe? Or does it disconnect relatively easily? (Guess that's 2 questions )

I never remove mine either. It's not been an issue. YMMV.

I've found no need to cut the leash. Just put the cap on the Valterra.

Emptied my tanks last weekend at dumostation. When black water was draining where starting dripping through the area of my hot and cold water low points. I have to figure what cause is before taking into dealer for warranty. General RV charges $89 just for looking at it and then if not warranty item you pay that. Not right.
