    Annod Rod

My Reflection 29RS has an aluminum hot water tank, thus no annod rod. In my travels when I stop at RV supply stores several parts sales people have stated it is still a good idea to use an annod rod. The literature received with my rig states that a rod is not necessary and should not be used. What is Reflection's recommendation? If a rod is used in an aluminum tank will damage result?
    Thanks,
    Winddrinker

At the first rally we had talked to the Atwood rep, who really does know his stuff and he said a definate NO!! don't do it! The anode rod will react and damage the aluminum lining in your tank.

WhittleBurner is very correct! Aluminum is very prone to corrosion/pitting from use of many other metals. Just get a cheap tank flushing wand for your garden hose, and give the tank a flush and descaling with vinegar once to a few times a year (frequency depends on how soft/hard the water is in the places you fill up, and how often it is used).

I should have added that one of the best things you can do to help the life of your water heater is to use a good filtration system and not allow half that gunk to get in there to begin with. We use a 2 stage filter , and I've been thinking about adding a water softener too.
