Ford '17 F350/303RLS: What trailer brake setting are you using? setup procedures?

    Hi All:
I want to setup my ford factory brake controller properly for towing. I have had the hubs checked and am good there so no greasy brakes. Brand new 303RLS. On my F350 I can set the controller from 1-10 and also set three levels of braking force/aggressiveness. Does anyone have good procedure for how to properly set these? Also can anyone tell me what their ford controller is set for with a Reflection? Presently I am set at 8.5 with aggressive braking. I am thinking the level is too low and the aggressive setting is too much but I don't know enough to say for sure...

Hi Jim. I've got less than 100 miles towing on mine so far, so no a lot of experience yet. Mostly on inter-state. I left the dealer with the force setting on medium and the controller on 9.0. It was a comfortable tow over the city streets from the dealer to the highway, and remained so on the inter-state driving thru rush hour traffic to get home (an hour away). Didn't really get to play with the manual squeeze level to see how other settings felt. Will do that when I get it out to practice backing up at the county fair grounds parking lot (we are first time owners).

I keep mine on 9.... and the way I test it is after I hookup, I go down an empty road and squeeze the manual brake levers without touching the regular brakes and you can definitely feel it stopping the rv and the truck..... almost as fast as if I had pressed the truck brake with a medium pressure.

FYI just had mine inspected and no grease... hope it keeps up.

Every truck/trailer setup will vary some. I keep ours on 6.5 and we do fine. I did what was recommended above - go about 20 mph then use the lever on the dash without using truck brakes to adjust. Good luck!
