Solar tax credit for RV's - interesting information

    Hi everyone,

I was checking the internet for potential tax deductions for solar. I didn't realize the tax credit may extend to RV's. Some good information worth checking out for a potential up to 30% tax credit. Has anyone filed for this deduction? I have to ask my tax guy. Here's one link from AM Solar.

Great minds think alike Mary, we asked the same question within an hour of each other.
Going to check with my tax guy tomorrow to make sure.

    Thx,

My tax accountant told me "Solar credits are available for your principal residence and your second home. The second home includes RV’s. Therefore you would be able to utilize the credits.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm hunting for similar info. I've read that the Residential Energy Credit applies to new home construction, and that some homeowners hav trouble getting an estimate of equipment and labor costs from their builder. They've had to price out the system themselves in order to complete the REC form.

I'm wondering if the same logic could be applied to new RVs with included solar energy systems, and how you'd go about estimating in a way that satisfied the tax man.

I don't know the answer to that question but I do know that you can get a mortgage on a RV so long as it has full hook-ups. That would give me hope.

I did a lot of digging into solar credits in 2020 and the IRS is kind of vague, leaving room for interpretation of their rules. Basically, if it was bought and installed with proof of purchase in the current tax year, the credit applies.
An rv is considered a second home if it's lived in a minimum number of days (and it's not that many) and has the required equipment (like bedroom, kitchen, bathroom IIRC).
I took the credit that year.

I received the credit in 2019 when I put solar on my trailer. I listed it as my second home and there were no issues.

The 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (aka IRA act) has new Renewable Energy Tax Credits in it. It's going to take someone who likes to read law to tell us how that's going to shake out for the RV industry.
