Winegard Pathway X2 Plastic Base

Received our Pathway X2 and took a closer look at it today. Am I missing something or is the security eyelet, which is part of the base, made of plastic? Surely we don't run a security cable through a plastic eyelet, do we? I'm just trying to figure out how to secure this puppy to the campsite.

Okay, time to eat crow. I should have examined the system before piping up. The eyelet on the X2 IS plastic... The eyelet on the tripod is metal. I usually run the chain through the plastic eyelet, and then the metal eyelet. A determined thief could grab this very quickly. Here's a pic:

Thanks, Jim, that's the same as mine. If there was a way to lock the antenna to the tripod that would work, but otherwise it would be pretty simple to break the plastic eyelet and unscrew from the base and go bye bye.

I'm thinking about looping a section of chain around the antenna base and extending both ends through the eyelet to connect to a cable via lock and extending the cable through the tripod base like you do. I'd imagine this would provide some better level of security as long as the chain is loose enough to allow the antenna to rotate freely. Someone could still take cut the cable/lock/chain with good cutters, but they wouldn't be able to pull the chain off without pulling the antenna off it's base which would render it unusable.

Seems odd that Winegard would provide such a low level of protection for the antenna itself, but maybe I'm just being paranoid. We've never had anything stolen from our campsites, but I've never left anything out that was this expensive either.

Not to say it won't happen but I have had first the Tailgater and now the Pathway antenna over the last four years and have never locked either. The only tie down I use is a gallon jug of water to hold the stand in place.

I use a Carryout 2. I usually put on my slide out roof

I've put mine on the roof several times which I think would really deter a thief. I also think that if they see a chain and padlock on it, they will move on to easier pickings. There has been a couple of times when our signal went out and I looked out to see a kid standing in front of it staring. It was a great opportunity to go outside and show them how it works.

I went so far as to put an eye-bolt in my roof so I can secure my setup (the exact same as Jim has) so I don't have to worry about a wind coming up and blowing it off.

Good ideas, and yeah I'm probably being overly cautious. I would think seeing the kid standing there looking at it would probably be a more serous risk. At least it's not painted like a soccer ball!

Jim and Poppy, my rig is still under warranty and I don't want to be screwing anything into the roof just yet, but after warranty I just might do what you've done. So, can you tell me what size and length eye bolt you screwed into the roof? I'm not sure of the roof structure so what exactly did you screw it into other than the roof membrane? Not sure about the slide out if I went that route.
