    Need Help Repairing Awning

Some lessons are more costly then others. Third trip out and rubbed the awning against a tree, bummer. I am thinking about using some awning tape but from what I have read it appears that the awning should be removed and the tape applied on a flat surface. Even if the tape can be applied without taking the awning down it would be nice to know how to replace one in the future. Any recommendations, tips, or comments appreciated.

I used awning tape on an old awning with sun damage. I did it while it was rolled up and it worked just fine. It lasted another year until I got around to replacing the fabric.

Thanks Jim, I will probably do the same. Were you able to replace the fabric without having to remove awning from camper? I'm assuming you had the electric awning as I do.

That old awning was a mechanical one and damn near ate me alive when the spring mechanism decided to unwind while I was straddling it.

Jim - I'm can't believe that you would not have located and reviewed the awning installation/maintenance manual prior to messing with it?

Tent2tt - I think if you go to the manufacturer's web site you should be able to download an installation manual which will provide good information, including safety warnings about the crazy internal springs. I found the manual for my awning and have saved it for future reference.

Oh I did, and watched a lot of you tube videos too. But the pin holding it from unwinding fell out. I felt like I was wrestling a giant python and losing the battle.

    Jim, that is very funny!

Awning repair tape is what I would start out with. If you are going to replace the entire awning fabric in the future, I would recommend getting an metal awning wrapped one.
