I am working to mount a TV in the area identified in the bedroom of a Reflection 293RES, Janice had previously provided the backer plate location. I am now wanting to know how thick, and what material the backer plate is made of?
Thank You

I have now idea why. I was wanting to mount the TV soon, but not sure what type of fasteners to use. I was thinking that the person from the Factory who could ansewer the question was gone.
Thanks for your reply. titrtyca
Not sure how thick the piece is, but they usually embed a piece of plywood in the wall before it is laminated.
Obviously, the wall thickness should be taken into account when buying screws to hold the mounts in.

I just put a mirror over the dresser in our bedroom, we will put the tv on the dresser if needed. I recall a post by Grand Design people saying take a magnet to locate the plate. I bet it's thin steel backer plate, probably 16 gauge or less. I have no facts to prove this, except the post instructing someone to use a magnet. Wood seems to be a better option in my opinion, just don't drill through your exterior wall.

Thanks for the reply. I do remember something about using a magnet. Which means it must have iron in it attached to the aluminum frame of the coach. I am not a Metallurgist but I can play one on this forum. I am thinking there is a dissimilar metal and corrosion issue. Since Grand Design is not sure what the thickness and type of backer they installed. I guess I will use two 1/2" x 4" carriage bolts with fender washers for added strength. Maybe I could paint the bolt heads to match the tan exterior color.
You better put the flat washer and nut on the exterior, so it don't interfere with your bracket adjustment inside. Lol

The exterior walls are only 2" thick so you need to be careful in your fastener length...lots of places that you can verify wall thickness. The factory really needs to identify the backer...wood or sheet metal to know what type of fastener would be required.
