    87 octane non-ethanol or Premium with fuel treatment for genny?

    Hello all, was wondering what the consensus was about which would be better for usage and long term storage (I averaged 30 hours and 20 gal for the last 12 months)?

    Thanks in advance!

    Non ethanol would be better if you have availability. I do not have availability, so I run premium with treatment(only because I run premium in my bikes and I usually fill at the same time).

    Even non ethanol gas gets old so you still need some kind of treatment for it. I use Archoil in all of my generators and small engines.

    You do better to use 100% gasoline of any octane. If it starts to age, burn it in your car and get fresh gasoline in a gas can. The problem with 90/10 gasoline is in aging when acids are produced that does damage to anything in the fuel system that has rubber. Aging 90/10 gasoline often gums up needle valves in carbs.

    Only ethanol gas in my area so I also use Arhoil AR6200 in all my fuel storage containers. It fixed any gas powered tools that were beginning to run poorly.

    I will only use non-ethanol fuel in all my small engine gadgets. I learned that the hard way after having carburetors plugged up in my generator and lawn mower while using the cr*ppy ethanol blend fuel.

    Thanks for all the replies. It looks like even with non-ethanol it is recommended that I also use an additive for storage. I can get non-ethanol here for the same price as Premium. I don't recall seeing any minimum octane ratings for the generator, anyone know if there is one? That might make the decision easier as they only sell 87 in non-ethanol here.

    87 octane is fine for generators.

    ok, doing a little more research I came across this in the Cummings manual online;

    https://power.cummins.com/sites/defa.../F-1123-EN.pdf

    Q: Will high-octane gasoline reduce the amount of fuel varnish?
    A: No, because varnish is a form of fuel degradation that is not a function of
    octane level. Rather, it is a function of fuel quality, age and additive treatment.
    High-octane fuel without stabilizer additive will oxidize or varnish at a faster rate
    than fuel treated with a fuel stabilizer. (page 17)

    Still no mention of Octane rating recommendation, just this;

    Gasoline Generators — Treat the engine of your Cummins Onan generator to a
    good grade of regular unleaded gasoline and it’ll purr in response. (page 25)

    Just fired the generator for the first in my new to me 350M with fresh gasoline and Sta-Bil additive.

    The tanks were an unknown entity although they were almost empty upon receipt of the coach.

    Let it warm up real good and turned on all three air conditioners...it was like an ice box inside

    The more I investigate this rig the happier we are about getting it...generator is all good!!!
