Removing cabinets for us claustrophobic types

My husband did this mod, but I know I've seen on various forums other people asking about doing something like this, so I wanted to show it can be done (and fairly easily)! Some background: I'm super claustrophobic, so sleeping between my husband (who's very broad shouldered/backed) and a wall was just impossible for me. I would wake up and have a panic attack, so he was having to sleep on the fold out couch. He called Grand Designs to make sure that nothing about the cabinets was supporting anything else (like the above cabinet or giving the walls strength or anything). They said it should be totally fine and if he got out all the screws first, they should come right out - which they did. It only took a couple of hours of work, and it looks great! We're losing some storage obviously, but my ability to sleep is more important for us both (I'm a tad cranky after a night of no sleep ).

We have the same bedspread. Glad to see there is more than 1 of us with great taste.
