Electrical issue 297RSTS - more traffic here than electrical reason for General
We have a 297RSTS that I just got back home with from dealer for leaking axles and other small things. One of those things was a bad motion detector light in the bathroom. It turned on and off just didn't detect motion. They replaced it. Haul it home, plug up to house trips GFCI on house plug. Tried several things and finally found that if I turned the batteries off with the red disconnector switch in pass through it didn't trip the GFCI. I never had to do that before when we have had it at the house. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Al, since that battery cut off switch turns on and off the 12 V from the battery, I would check all connections and grounds starting at that switch and toward the battery, frame, etc. I'm sure you'll get more professional direction from others, but that came to mind.

To be on the safe side and not chasing down a non-existant problem, have you tried another outlet at your house on a different circuit? Were all the rv breakers shut or open when you plugged in to the house?

Sorry but by shut or open breakers I assume you mean on or off. They were all on, I checked. They were all on when it worked the other times at the house. I have not touched anything in the TT like that since we brought it home. I will try a different plug but would guess it's in the TT as I have used the same plug several times. Plus, it's working now but only with battery connector "Off."

It does seem strange for this to occur after changing out a light. Yes i mean on or off, shut = on, open = off. When plugged into shore power, the 12v system gets power from the converter. I would try turning off all breakers prior to plugging in(this is a good practice at campgrounds too). Turn on main breaker and then all except the converter breaker. Leave your battery switch in connected position. This will narrow it down to the 12v or 120v portion of your electric system. Further testing will still be needed after this.

Also, since you are on a 20A outlet i imagine, ensure your AC remains off.

Seems like quite a coincidence that it started right after the dealer did some electrical work. First thing I would do is double check the dealers work.

This is a real curious one. The most likely cause for popping the house GFCI is a connection between shore power neutral and shore power ground . . . that happens when the 12V system is turned on . I agree with Gary and would start by checking whatever the dealer touched.

Your converter may be drawing enough current to overload a 15amp circuit, especially if your batteries are down a little bit. LTurn you battery switch on. Then turn all the AC breakers off on the trailer, and plug it in to the house circuit, then turn on the trailer AC breakers one at a time. You will be able to spot the circuit or item that's causing the issue.
