Ants inside ceiling light of slide!!

Sitting on recliner this morning, looked up and noticed debris inside the oval, overhead light. My DH got the cover off and ewwwww. Small pieces of what appeared to be styrofoam AND ants. Ran his finger around the casing and a bunch of tiny ants scurried out. He's throughly inspecting the area now and spraying up inside the wiring hole. Ewwwww. Anyone else have this experience?

Haven't seen that. We've had ants, Terro usually takes care of them

I'll second that recommendation - Terro does the trick.

I had ants infesting the ceiling of our 2006 Jayfeather. They burrowed into the styrofoam insulation and could be seen when I removed the trim around AC. They drop debris, that looks like sawdust and white specs, into ceiling lights and onto floor. Spraying the AC opening did not get rid of them, but setting off a bug bomb (Hot Shot) inside camper finally got rid of them. They get on roof and find a way in (even though I keep Terro traps near all tires and hitch post.

Now I have the same problem in my one year old Imagine 2500RL...debris being dropped on bed from ceiling vent trim and in shower from trim around skylight. So it looks like they are in the attic and traveling around up there. Plan to set off another Hot Shot after popping LED ceiling lights out of their openings. Will also spray bug killer around vents on roof each month.

Be sure to match correct bug killer to correct bug.

Our funniest infestation was Lady Bugs. I didn't know that they hibernate. They let out a chemical that they are attracted to and then find a hidey hole and gather for the winter. Lucky us, they chose someplace in our RV, we never did find exactly where, but we had lady bugs on the wall for over a year.

Another thing to watch for is limbs from bushes and trees touching the RV. I found an army of ants walking across a tree branch that was touching the roof, they came across the branch, over the roof, through the slide and found the pantry. I was impressed, DW just wanted them dead.

I had ants in the ceiling of our previous 2006 Trail Cruiser right around the air conditioner. It would take months to get rid of them with ant baits, then the next spring when winter ended and it warmed up, whatever eggs were left would hatch and we would start the battle again. Very annoying.

Reading your reply, did you keep the slides in or have them extended? I am not familiar the two rigs you mentioned so I am not even sure if they have slides.

Another vote for Terro, use the drops that takes very little. I would be concerned that a full spray could melt the styrofoam insulation. Ants get into the darndest places , they could be dropping from a tree and are likely finding the smallest opening on your roof. Climb up and give an upclose inspection for tiny tiny breaks in the caulking. Also check under the AC cover.

The downside of Terro is that it works quickly but temporarily. If you really want to neutralize an infestation, use something like Bayer Maxforce Quantum. Takes a little longer to see a reduction in ants, but then one day they just flat out disappear and never return.
