I think you're fine to put a padlock on the metal straps that hold the propane tanks while it's in storage. But I'd remove them while you're underway. When we had our fire last year, one of the very first things the fire department did was to open the tank doors and toss the tanks out of the way. You can see in the attached picture that the fire had just started to melt the tank's door. If they'd needed to mess around cutting a lock off the tank strap, it would have taken just a little bit longer and could have caused the tanks to start venting which is very nasty and might have endangered them even more.

I assume the OP is trying to say Imagine, which is a travel trailer.

Run a chain or cable around them. It will keep the honest thieves from taking them.

Oops, missed that. But even so, when on the road, keep them unlocked so they can be cleared quickly.

The best guess is a fuel line came off after the dealer changed the fuel filter. The fuel ignited and we couldnt extinguish it. Yes the trailer was totalled.

I used a Battery Shackle available on Amazon kind of spendy but but blend in well and is great design. It works great and will discourage a tweaker/opportunity thief. I did the DIY mod on the propane tanks and old style bike lock 517D and nuts around the long shaft to make it harder to saw it or cut it off. If they go through the trouble I guess they need my propane tanks more than I do. Click image for larger version.
