We have a 2016, F-150, SuperCab, 3.5 EcoBoost, 36 gallon, Max Tow, 12,200 towing capacity, 2,061lbs payload.
We also tow a 2950 RL.
It does the job just fine.
With that being said, we live in Florida and are weekend warriors so only travel within an hour or 2 from home and this truck is my husband's daily commuter so daily mpg and getting around in a congested part of Orlando that we live in is important right now and will be for the next 4 - 5 years.
We've only owned the 2950RL for about 4 months and only have a few miles on the road and if this was all I was going to do, the F-150 would be fine. The 2950RL gives us plenty of room to have our friends and family come visit and stay with us while camping.
I would upgrade to at least an F-250 Super Duty for longer commutes that would include mountainous terrain. We've already discussed that if we keep the 2950RL then we will upgrade the truck in 4 - 5 years when we plan to hit the road as a snowbird and live in our Imagine for 6 months out of the year traveling to the national parks and mountains up north, or we will get a smaller Imagine like the 2500RL and keep the truck.
So, you should ask yourself how you plan to use your 2950RL and where you plan to go?Rick & Patti

We have 2600RB and a 5.0 f150 similar payload to yours. Towed fine in flat FL highways however I personally wouldn't want to tow much more than that with it. We just got it so that may change as I get more experience towing it.

I just switched from a 2013 F150 ecoboost to an F350 to tow a fifth wheel. That being said, the ecoboost was incredible at towing my Jayco 314BDS. It ran about 9'500 pounds. I absolutely love the power and technology in the ecoboost.
