Thank you. We will lower our spare all the way down and make sure the cable is all good. Like you say, it's better to do now than on the side of the highway.

While doing an air check on all the tires before our trip, I found the the release point for the spare, found the spare loose, got it down and wrestled it from under the trailer. Our last 3 RV's had bumper mounted spares. Went to C W and purchased a bolt on a spare tire bracket for the 4 in. bumper. Took a 12" dia. plant saucer, cut a hole just big enough to fit the cable attachment thru and wound the cable up tite. 8000+ miles so far and all is good. Ken

The hole in the side of my 303RLS also doesn't line up with the hex for the spare tire hoist. I had to use a ratchet and socket to get mine down. My tire was also mounted with the air valve on the top side so you have to take the tire down to check the air, that just doesn't make any sense. I flipped my tire so you can check the tire pressure from under the trailer without having to drop the tire. Grand Design should address these issues as it is a safety issue specially if you are on the side of the road and have to deal with getting the tire down and don't have a ratchet with the proper socket to do the job. The crank supplied with the trailer is virtually worthless.

Hi @Blacksmith,
Could you add your full 17-digit RV VIN to the "About Me" section of your forum profile? Thank you in advance... Generally speaking and if so equipped, the spare tire can be mounted to the underside of the RV with the tire air valve either pointing down or up. We generally install the undermount spare tire with the tire air valve pointed up to protect it from road debris/weather conditions/etc. Also, if you've not yet contacted your dealer after finding the spare tire crank handle access hole was not aligned correctly in your Reflection 303RLS fifth wheel, please contact them for repair assistance. Or you are welcome to contact our Customer Support directly at (574) 825-9679 for assistance.
Best regards,

Hi Rob (@Cate&Rob),
This was when I next discovered that the hole in the fender skirt did not line up with the drive that lowers the spare

Hi Janice,
Thanks for the follow-up, but I decided that this doesn't bother me enough to go through the hassle (for both of us) of having the dealer replace the skirt piece and then have to reapply the Diamond Kote paint protection. I can lower/raise the spare quite easily with either a ratchet wrench or a cordless drill.

Hi Janice,
I have updated my profile with my full Vin number. I also don't want my dealer to put another hole in the side of my trailer just to get the spare hoist to line up. I will just carry the 3/4 " socket and ratchet with me just in case. But I really don't understand how this can happen and not be noticed by someone at the factory. It has apparently happened to more than myself and Rob.
As for the valve stem pointing up on the spare, I would rather have mine pointing down so I can check the air pressure without having to drop the tire to check it.
Thanks, Paul

Yesterday while setting up the 337RLS I noticed the spare tire hanging down. We were not staying in it but our daughter and family are. So when I go back on Monday I will check to see what happened any suggestions.

Thanks Rob. We just checked our spare and as you said the valve stem was up. We have lowered and turned the spare over so it’s easier to check the air.

My tire kept dropping too so dealer determined the hanger was defective and replaced it. So far so good. If it goes bad again Ill probably put it out back using a receiver spare tire carrier.
