Your method is fine for your scenario and saves time, but for someone who is not familiar with their combination of vehicles, we know the rear axle weight and whether the axle or tires are overloaded is the most critical number! I can see in this case the pin weight is least critical.

We are pulling the 376TH with a SRW 2016 Ford F350 with 6.7. It pulls fine. Have pulled in 30+mph headwind/sidewind and have had no problem. Don't think you have to have a dually to pull a 16,000 trailer.

Shelldog, the only justification for a dually would be for the safety of your family and other people on the road! It Pulls Just Fine! is because it has the same power as the dually. Can you say Cat scale? www.ramgunner.com explains it much better than I can!

The problem is, it is not a 16,000 lbs trailer, more like a 20,000 trailer once you load it up for traveling.
What is the recommended pin weight from GD? 20% I believe.

20% of 20,000 is 4,000 lbs. What is your payload on your Ford and can the axle and tires support that weight.

Only the scale will tell you what you need to know.

Seth has a more diplomatic way to express the facts of the case. He and Becca are also walking the walk with a tow vehicle that will pass the Cat scale test! When 18 wheelers are required to cross the scales on the side of interstate and other highways, if they are overweight, they are parked! I love the individual freedom that the USA was founded on, but I also believe in exercising that freedom responsibly.
