    Connecting external propane tank.

I need to connect either a 100 lb or 250 gallon external tank. Any reason I can't connect it to the external port for the propane grill? All I should need would be a regulator and the correct fittings on both ends of a hose?

Also if you have a 100 lb tank, how long does this last during the winter months if you are running the furnace and water heater?

Finally do you take the 100 lb tank in to be filled or have the supplier come by and fill it?
Filling my 250 gallon tank is about 3x cheaper than filling my small RV tanks. If the 100 lb is going to be priced high like that I am just as well to get a full sized 250 gallon tank

    Thanks

I found some of my answers. The external line on my 29rs is past the regulator so I couldn't connect the external tank there.

My propane supplier cannot fill the 100 lb tanks. I would have to take it to them and it weighs about 178 lbs when full!

They will rent me a 250 gallon for $60 year (or sell it for $1200) or sell me a 120 gallon for $600.
Filling the 250 gallon is cheaper than filling the 100 lb tank by $1 per gallon.

The 250 gallon tank has to sit at least 10' from the RV. My propane supplier will bring the necessary fittings and hose when they bring the tank.

These are the gallons delivered while we where at Park City this last winter. Amerigas charged $100 to deliver the tank and set it up, then they removed the tank just before we left. That a lone is worth not having to drag a propane tank around in freezing weather. You will have to contact the local suppliers to find out what their resources are.

As far as attaching it. The loaner tank sat out front of the site making it easy for the delivery guy to fill. They ran some copper tube over to the fitting on the bottom side of the rig. The guys in Breckenridge went one better, they had a fitting that screwed into the hose that attaches to a regular propane tank.

I think tying into the grill connector would be iffy, you would have to have a regulator in between the fitting and the tank.

Thanks for the response. What are the average winter temps in Park City and which RV do you have? I couldn't tell by your profile pix.

Those numbers are from our old Cedar Creek 36RD5S. 40'. Our current RV is a Momentum 376th, it has yet to be tested in winter.

Average temps would be around 23. it got as cold as -8 for several days, got as warm as 45 toward spring. We managed to keep a mean temperature of 65 in the RV, of course there were pockets of hot and cold.
