Branson, Mo Things to see and do

Thought we might make a run up to Branson, MO next month and wondered about what to do and see around the area. We have heard about the shows and are checking into a train ride out of Eureka Springs. From those who have visited there lately, any recommendations of what to definitely see and do there? This will be our first visit. Advice on RV parks/campgrounds would be welcomed, as well. We are travelling from the Gulf Coast and plan to stop in Hot Springs also for a few days before heading north to Branson.

We were there twice last May. We really enjoyed The Million Dollar Quartet and Raiding The Country Vault. Also saw Six, but didn't care for it. Not sure what we were expecting, but that wasn't it.

Table Rock is a short drive out of Branson. We had a great afternoon there.

The Branson area is VERY hilly with lots of traffic. We didn't yet have our 307 when we went there, but we did notice an RV park or two in the area. We are newbie's to RVing and both commented on how difficult we thought it would be to maneuver an RV in the area (though we saw a lot of folks doing it).

You have many, many music and comedy shows. And Silver Dollar.City is a.great amusement operation. They also own Dollywood. It is a very family friendly city too.

The city owned rv park is Lakeside. It fronts on Lake Taneycomo which is the White River. You can trout fish out your back door. Short walk to Bass Pro and big shopping center next to it. As to shows, Presleys is one of the original's that is worth going to see. Just drive the strip to find a show. Dick's Five and Dime is a hoot to visit in downtown.

We saw the Branson Act "Liverpool Legends" at a St. Louis benefit Saturday night. They were great. If you like The Beatles, check them out.

You may want to see who will be at The Andy Williams Performing Arts Center & Theatre when you are there. We saw Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy there a few months back.

Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Traffic gets backed up on the strip.

My parents used to visit Branson and stayed in Mel Tillis' condo. Mel would introduce them at his show. Mel's then wife, Judy, and his mother in law would be out in the office hawking GooGoo candy and anything else they could sell.

When Mel built his new theatre, he paid $14 million--cash. That's an illustration of the money that goes thru this little city.

Artists like Andy Williams could easily gross $1 million per month and live on beautiful Table Rock Lake.

Top of the Rock is really neat. Kids also loved the go cart racing track (and I did too!!).

We stayed at Wilderness Campground next to Silver Dollar City. Would go back - nice place even if sites are a bit small.

There is plenty to see and do there. We spent last Thanksgiving week there. Saw several shows, went to the Titanic museum, Wax museum, and quite a bit more. We stayed at America's Best Campground. Really enjoyed it. For Thanksgiving Day, the campground provided a bunch of smoked turkeys, mashed potatoes and dressing. All the campers brought some sort of dish to the feast. We brought a good south Louisiana chicken and sausage gumbo my wife cooked up. It was a real hit. Overall, it was a great trip.

Thought I'd post what we did. Left the Gulf Coast and drove to Leroy Percy State Park near Greenville, MS. It is the oldest state park in MS but has been updated with 50amp service and 40 ft cement pads. There are only 16 or so spots but it was a nice, quiet little place. The park staff were nice, and the place was well-kept, but bring your mosquito repellent. There is ample shopping and some good restaurants about 12 mi away in Greenville, MS.

After a 2 night stay, we headed to Hot Springs, AR and stayed at the COE Crystal Springs Campground. It was a beautiful place and the hosts were friendly and helpful. There are a lot of trees here and they changed our spot because the trees would not allow us to back in to the site we had reserved. We enjoyed our stay, touring the Hot Springs area, and the lake views were awesome. People were catching fish like crazy there.

Our next stop was Branson, MO. We stayed for a week at the city owned Lakeside RV Park. The staff was great here. They helped with recommendations and discounts for shows, etc. The park was packed out but it did not bother us and , although it was close to everything, we ended up driving most everywhere. Our site had partial shade, full hookups, TV cable, and really fast Wi-Fi. All the fellow campers we met were very nice. We will definitely consider going back. They offer a free night if you stay a week plus a Good Sam discount. Averaged about $27/night. Not too bad. The only downside to this park was the railroad tracks across the street. Occasionally, a train or two would go by at night but it did not bother us too much. By the end of the week, we were used to it.

After our week ended, we started back south to the Maumelle Park COE campground near Little Rock, AR. This was also a great spot. Our site was on the Arkansas River with a super view, and it was short drive to most any place we needed to go. Pinnacle Mountain State Park was almost adjacent to Maumelle and provided some scenic views. The only downside was the Little Rock traffic at certain times of the day.

Our Solitude performed very well for the trip and we were very happy with it. Our average fuel mileage for the trip (towing and non-towing)with the 2017 F350 was about 12.4 MPG. We always try and check out other campgrounds in the areas we are staying and we did that as well. If anyone has questions regarding campgrounds or things to do in these areas, feel free to PM me.

We recently stayed at Cobb Ridge Campground. Partly because we have motorcycles and wanted to ride the trails. About 40 miles into Branson, we wanted to see some shows. We have to learn to plan ahead for this area, the same thing happened to us last time we visited Branson. We arrived at a time when the big shows were all re-rigging for the change of season. Too late for the summer shows, and too early for the Christmas shows. We couldn't find any available shows that got our interest.
