    Cycling furnace at elevation

I have had some issues with my furnace cycling and not staying lit when I go up in elevation, only 5500'.
I'm just wondering if many of you have experienced this problem and if there is a fix for it. I have tried the altitude kit supplied by Atwood but it's just a different exhaust tube and didn't make a difference. So I'm hoping there might be some people here that have actually experienced this and found the answer for fixing it.
    Thanks

There is a very lengthy thread on this topic. I'm putting a link below.

It is my understanding that the best solution is to adjust the regulator pressure to compensate for the higher altitude. You can find manometers on Amazon for a reasonable price that will allow you to precisely adjust it. But I have not seen definitive proof that this solution will work.

Does anyone know if there is a write up for adjusting the gas regulator or can someone give me a quick how to class. I'm pretty handy but have never adjusted a gas regulator before. And I don't really want to burn down my fifth wheel. Lol

I've had this problem on a couple of RVs. The problem gets worse if you are boondocking on battery power and the fan doesn't run at full speed. On my soon to be sold Winnebago motor home, I enlarged the furnace return air opening and added four 12VDC muffin cooling fans to help air flow back into the furnace. It helped a lot, and at colder temperatures, the burner will stay light for the full heat cycle. The issue is that with insufficient airflow, the burner begins to overheat and the high limit switch shuts down the burner. Mostly it's bad design by RV manufactures in the mid west that never test at higher altitudes.

Yea that makes sense however I had 2 2000 watt generators running and plugged into them and still the burner only stayed on for a few seconds then shut off. Is that enough time for it to overheat and shut off

That's a different problem. Probably too rich of a mixture. As mentioned, adjusting the regulator might help. I purchased a manometer on Amazon so that I can adjust the LP pressure as needed.
