Adding a second AC
We are considering adding a second AC unit on our Reflection 303. The questions I have are:
1) Is the AC prep universal or is it for a particular unit (ie. domestic)?
2) will the second unit be ducted or inducted?
Also any other information or tips on this would be welcome.
Thanks

Re: Adding a second AC
Hey Boomer,
I'm also thinking of adding a second AC unit on our Reflection 337RLS. It's my understanding the AC prep (electrical wiring/structural support) is universal, however I will add the same manufacturer (Dometic) as our existing rear unit. I was told by the dealer that the new unit will tie into the existing duct work that is already in place. My question is can I add a heat pump for my second unit and does the addition of a second AC unit require a new thermostat?
Thanks in advance,

Re: Adding a second AC
I may be wrong but was under the impression that a 2d AC (in my reflection) would be a non-ducted, direct exchange version. I'll probably add a small unit to mine later to aid in cooling the trailer down in hot weather.

Re: Adding a second AC
We just picked up our new 303 last Friday from the dealer. When I ordered it, I wanted the 2nd AC unit in the bedroom and the dealer installed it. It is a Dometic brand. It only vents into the bedroom as best I can tell (used the built in vents of the unit). We live south of Houston so it gets pretty warm around most places we camp. Might not use it too much but wanted it as a fail safe and can still sleep if the primary went out for some reason.
let me know if you need any "eyes" to check on other details. They installed it before I got to the dealership so I don't know many details on the installation.

Re: Adding a second AC
Thanks for the great information on this board. I'm now thinking the non-ducted unit may be more practical for us as the second unit. Also, I like the idea of a heat pump for the second unit to save on propane for winter camping. In Texas, we do a lot of winter camping with night temps in the 30-40 degree range, and will definitely need the additional air in the summer.

We have the 303 and had the dealer put in a second AC in the bedroom when we purchased it. They put in a domestic that only vents to the bedroom. There is also the ducted vents to the bedroom from the main ac unit. We are so glad we purchased that second AC. It was really needed and makes a big difference.

We elected to go with the dual pane window option in the hope that if there is good insulation, we won't need the second A/C. This will also help keep the noise down and the unit warmer in the winter. But, if we need more cooling, we'll certainly add the second A/C.

We came very close to getting the 2nd AC in our 303 , but changed our minds after the plant tour and were told about how the ducting works and the performance of the testing they did in 100 degree temps. Don't remember the particulars any more tho, maybe Gary will.
It was enough to make us wait and see how it did without as it's always something we could add later. The dealer will charge us the same for it either way.
It would not have been tied to the ducted system, which is to bad, that unit is soooo quiet! It would also of had it's own thermostat in the bedroom.
