Portable air compressor for trailer
Anyone have any suggestions regarding the purchase of a
portable air compressor that we will be taking when we
travel in our 5th wheel. Have seen and heard many
different opinions.
Thanks
Roy

Re: Portable air compressor for trailer
I actually carry a regular 120V pancake style compressor that I chain in the back of my truck. Since I have a generator, it's no problem running it when I'm on the road. I check my tires regularly, and it's nice to be able to top them off quickly. It's also nice to have the air hose and proper fitting to blow out dirt and debris from areas such as the back of the truck.

Re: Portable air compressor for trailer
I used to carry a fairly large pancake compressor but switched to a smaller, more portable Blue Hawk 100 psi electric. It rides in the belly of my 303 and is much more manageable. On trips I carry a small Honda generator but at the lake I just rely on the shore electricity.
BTW, I retired from the Army four years before you got your duffle bag. I'm still going (just a little slower.)Floyd - Lake Tenkiller, OK (and occasionally Okla City)

Re: Portable air compressor for trailer
I have a small Sears air compressor that I carry in my truck with me when I am traveling. Also have a Honda generator to run it with in case I am camping where there is no electric. I use it for checking the air in my tires and also for blowing out the water lines for winterizing and also my bike tires.

Look at puma compressors. These 12v units are what a lot of the off-roaders in our area carry on board. Compact but very capable.

Re: Portable air compressor for trailer
At the present time I also keep a PorterCable pancake compressor stored in the basement of our fifthwheel. Several friends of mine have gone to a product called ViAir. http://viaircorp.com/portables.html.
They have a system you mount under your truck with the supply air nozzle located by your license plate, or a hand held version which connects to a 12v socket. I think they may be a little pricey but probably the last one you will ever buy!!!!!

Re: Portable air compressor for trailer
Harbor freight has a 12volt high volume compressor that will fill a truck tire. I picked one up for $60.00. It has a 25 foot hose and an 11 foot battery cable. It has clamps for attaching to the battery as it draws too much amperage to plug into a socket. It had really good reviews and doesn't take up a lot of room. I haven't used it as yet but when I do I will post to let everyone how well it does work.

Re: Portable air compressor for trailer
Thanks for all replies to my question regarding air compressor. I bought a PorterCable pancake
compressor which I could use at home if I decided to get something more compact.
