New Dish Satellite App - New for Dish Users

We really enjoy using our Dish satellite service while on the road. But there have always been a few bugs while using the service. If you don't use your receiver for two weeks, you need to call Dish to get the service reauthorized. In fact, we just had to do this last week. It's a real pain, and takes 15 minutes or so while talking to a representative who frequently is hard to understand because English is their second language.

Dish has now developed an App so you can reauthorize the receiver without having to call. Here's how it works:

1. Load the App "MyDish" onto your smart phone.
2. Log into the App with your Dish Login.
3. Click on "Dish Outdoors"
4. Follow the instruction on the screen.

No more having to call Dish to reset the receiver!

Also, Dish has added a new service called "Distant Network Service" for RVs. The cost is $10.00 per month. It allows you to get the Los Angeles feed of broadcast channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox) anywhere in the country. It is only available for RVs and Commercial trucks, and not for residences. If you want this option, it takes about two weeks to get it set up, so you may want to add it before you hit the road. It is only compatible with Wally and VIP receivers.

Thanks Jim. I’ll try this because their customer service reps never know how to handle our RV “on the go” service.

I go through the explanation of where we are, etc and after several minutes the rep says they need to transfer me to a “specialist”

Recently we stayed in Nashville for a month and the day before we left we got a knock on the door. The Campground folks had received our Dish bill because that’s the address we used for service on this trip. Unbelievable

Hope the App eliminates those issues

I saw this on the GD FB page and downloaded it as well. I haven't tried it yet but if it works, it will be awesome. I would love to get the major network feeds too but I don't know if I want to pay $120 a year for the limited time we travel. I'll have to think about that one.

Robert, I pay my DISH bill automatically by my cc so that doesn't happen. I did learn you can specifically tell the DISH representative NOT to change the billing address just the service address. I also stopped changing my location after our first cross country trip in 2015 when I learned that changing locations actually changed your home DVR so none of the shows we had set to be recorded got recorded. That's where this new service Jim is talking about will really help.

Thanks Poppy..you know we've happily enjoyed Direct TV in our house for 20 years or more now. If they had an affordable portable HD dish we'd take our receiver on the road and leave Dish behind faster than Road Runner left Wilie E Coyote in the dust. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Jim, I saved it and I think I will do it next time we go out on the road because I'm constantly bouncing between crappy campground cable feeds or the OTA antenna for that programming. This will really be worth it when on the road for us.

I struggled 2 years ago with giving up DirecTv also but I am happy with DISH now both at home and on the road. Actually, I like it just as much now as I used to like DirecTv so I can't complain at all.

+1 on that. If I ever go full time, I will probably get the $1500 roof mount dish, but I can't justify it for the few times a year I use my rig now. I have a tripod mounted DT dish with a SWIM that works pretty well. A little bit of a pain to set up and I usually don't use it unless i'm going to be staying for more than a day or two.
I have a cable from my home dish that I hook up when the trailer is parked in the yard.

Hey Jim, I had the occasion to use the App today and it worked but there is a step missing in your post and I thought you might want to add it.

After I logged in to my account I couldn't find Dish Outdoors anywhere but I finally found it by going into "Account" at the bottom of the Home page. So I think that would be step 3.
