    Water heater bypass

I read in my manual that there is a by pass valve in the water heater. I cannot locate mine. Has anyone else had this problem? I was thinking of using anti freeze in the lines over the winter, but I don't want to fill my hot water heater storage tank with the anti freeze. Another question, does anyone just blow out the lines with a compressor and not go through the process of siphoning anti freeze through the system. The manual list's both ways but it doesn't say to not put anti freeze in the lines. I do know I have to fill the traps and also let some go into the holding tanks in case there is any water left in there. Thanks for your intput.

Check out this post by Nukeboyt in the reference library. It demonstrates what each valve does and how to set it for your usage. To winterize the system with antifreeze, rotate the red knob (Water heater bypass) to the horizontal position.

Thanks TucsonJim. I just printed it out and it makes sense now. Have you winterized with just blowing out the lines? I am toying with doing it this way but still a little shaky on the idea. I know its probably fine but just looking for back up here, LOL. Thanks for the info and see you our here.

I know a number of people who go with blowing out the lines in Iowa where zero and below zero weather is common. I'm not a fan of the air approach. It works until it doesn't. My guess is part of the saving grace is PEX is forgiving when it comes to freezing.

No, I've never used the air method. But living in Tucson, I have rarely ever had to winterize a unit in the first place...

I know this is an old thread, but the link to Nukeboyt's diagram no longer works.{UPDATE: Link works! It must have been because I initially tried the link from work.} The Nautilus manual references a hot water bypass capability but then neglects to mention how to do it.

Also, for those of us with the Nautilus, blowing out the lines with air is part of the winterization procedure in the manual. Interesting that the colored handles are rotated at 45 degree angles during the process, too.

BL--if you have the Nautilus system read the manual! https://www.granddesignrv.com/sites/...Rev%208-16.pdf
