Fort Pickens Campground, Pensacola Beach Closed due to Hurricane Damage

Got a phone call from the Recreation.Gov folks today. My reservation at the Fort Pickens Campground on Pensacola beach over the weekend of Nov 10-12 has been cancelled and my fees all refunded. The road into the park was buried under a foot or two of sand and other damages done during the recent hurricane. The message on my phone said the campground would be closed until, at least, Dec 5 and possibly longer. What a bummer. It was the weekend of the Blue Angels Homecoming Airshow at Pensacola NAS. Well, maybe next year.

We already have a reservation to camp there for 5 days before we were going to Fort Pickens. Before Blackwater River SP, we will be at Service Park on the Tombigbee River near Coffeeville, AL. We just need to come up with a new plan after Blackwater River SP. Maybe head over to Panama City or Apalachicola.

Try St Andrews State Park near Panama City. The power poles along the water were a bit iffy when we stayed there 4 years ago, but it is a beautiful place to stay. Think long walks on the beach.

That's a beautiful place. We visited there years ago before RV life. We decided to come back home to attend a program for veteran's day at our local High School, then we'll head out again somewhere. A couple of places we want to check out are Grand Isle State Park, LA or maybe Desoto State Park, near FT Payne, AL.

If you have time spend a day or so at Cloudland Canyon State Park in NW GA, I think it's about 50 miles N-NE of Ft. Payne. Interesting hikes. You'll already be up on the ridge so it's an easy drive into Lookout Mountain and the fun stuff there.
