2800BH - How so light with so many features - 575lbs Brochure Tongue weight????

Hello everyone, new family here that is considering a new 2018 2800BH. Our friend has an older one and did alot of research before picking it and so far loves it.

I've got a spreadsheet setup that is about 100 columns wide of various trailers and features/weights and this 2800BH sticks out like a sore thumb (in a good way) for a few reasons but one is REALLY sticking out:

    1. How the devil does the "brochure" tongue weight get 575 pounds?

NOTHING can touch this figure in it's class with the features it has, even with the fictitious brochure weights from other manufacturers. (Brochure base weight is 5885 lbs sheesh that is light for the features).

How can a trailer this loaded be this light? lol.

    ---

Thankfully brochures can't be trusted so I snapped a pic of the yellow sticker on one on the lot, "weight as shipped from factory with a full load of propane" and it came to 6288 lbs. A difference of 403 lbs. Still nice a light compared to all others (with the features the 2800BH has). Should be a tongue weight of approx 628.8 lbs running on the 10% rule.

I was curious what some "real world" Tongue weights of the 2800BH with full propane and battery (but no cargo in trailer) come up as.

    ---

I'll start digging through the old posts to learn more about this fellow and see what other trailers people were looking at before picking the 2800BH.

    Cheers
    Tim

Real world tongue weight is considerably higher with full propane tanks, a battery (or 2) and whatever you stuff the pass-through with.

X2 ^^. Use 10 - 12% of the published GVWR of the trailer for an estimated tongue weight. Likely to end up between 750 and 900 lbs. Don't forget to add what you'll carry in the tow vehicle, too, when calculating payload numbers.

Our 2 month old 2800bh also came in at 6200 + dry. Part of the difference I think is that the brochures were showing the early 2017 with a single door. Ours has the second door in the bedroom. And ours has neither of the 2 options available. Gross weight didn't change, at about 7500.

So you are probably looking at a loaded tongue weight of 750 -800 lbs. I say probably because I haven't weighed it yet. SWAG system.

Took a factory tour a couple weeks ago. Pretty fascinating. Recommend any prospective purchasers do the same. You get treated very well, and you get to keep the orange safety vest!!!

Our 2017 2800BH, single door unit, has the sticker at like 5800 pounds or so. We weighed at 6000 pounds or so on first outing with it. One of the last outing this year, more stuff added or in there on regular basis, etc, had 6250 on the axles, with WDH bar hooked up. And on a Sherline tongue weight scale we are right around 750#, so roughly 12% tongue weight...

Thanks Eric, I finally got a copy of my sticker of my coming trailer and being a 2 door 2018 I guess it's a little heavier:

    2018 Imagine 2800BH
    GVWR: 7495 lb
    GAWR: 3500 lb (max 3500lb x 2 = 7000 lb... below GVWR Yikes!)
    UVW: 6302 lb

    So wow a lot heavier!

    Cheers
    Tim

EDIT: Just to clarify, those are from my trailer sticker not my truck.

Both axle weights equal 7000 lbs. Hitch weight of 750...800 lbs takes you past the GVW. A small cushion, but a cushion. Typical of rv manufacturers. If you don't exceed the GVW, you will be ok.

Haven't had a chance to get an actual loaded weight the trailer yet, but the loaded tongue weight on my 2500RL is 800lbs.

FYI, while I don't have a 2800BH to help, I do have a 2150. The specs from GD on my tongue weight says 423lbs. Actual weight with 2 20lb propane tanks & 2 12 volt batteries with a ready to travel TT is 770lbs. The GVWR of my TT is 6695lbs. A little under 12%. I would say everyone who purchases a GD TT will experience similar weight variances.

I had the same question when we bought our 2800BH. My guess is that the weight distribution puts enough weight behind the axles to lower the percentage of the tongue weight. With the Hensley Arrow hitch, it doesn't seem to make any difference.
