Just a quick question Gary. Have you added a performance chip or done anything special to your Ram 2500 to get that kind of mileage? What size tires do you have on the rig? How much does your 293 weigh? Are you always going down hill? 14.5 is great mileage.

I tow with a 2001 Silverado 3500 DRW with a 6.0l gas engine. It is a full size 8ft bed with a tool box and full crew cab. I tow with a drawtite 16k pro hitch. I have only towed our 303 about 350miles so far, but I have been up one of the worst grades in the state (Cuesta), outside of Pismo and found even though we slowed to about 35mph, it pulled pretty steady with some rise in temp. So far I feel comfortable I will be able to tell a lot more in the next three weeks when we head out to La Conner, Wa.

Would that Ford be F250/F350? Just curious, believe either configuration is great! It's similar to our situation with tow vehicle, also a 6.7 but CTD, 2008 Dodge 2500 Quad Cab, longbox, B & W 3500, Air Lift 5000 bags and compressor. Maybe we will see you in September at the rally!

I too am a Coast Guard veteran, 4 yrs active and 23 in the Reserves. Thank you for your service.
Do you know about SMART (Special Military Active/Retired Travel Club)? It's rvers from all branches of the service. Our rallies are called musters and there are chapters in just about every state. Each year there are regional musters and a national, to be held this year in Hemet, CA.
If you want to know more, let me know.

Just like my signature. Payload per Ford 3140 lbs. No air bags needed except the driver who has been accused of being full of hot air on occasion.

We'll be pulling a 323BHS with a 2003 Ford F250 7.3 diesel 2wd crewcab with a D-P Tuner 40 hp tow mode on the engine. It came with the factory tow package.
We intend to put a set of air bags on the rear with an inside controlled compressor. We'll also be using a set of gauges--pyrometer, tranny temperature and boost. (They're a must on any tow truck.) And a TruKool tranny cooler @ $150 is the best insurance you're every going to have on any transmission for any brand of tow vehicle.
That's about as good as you can make a 3/4 ton pickup for towing. (I just don't care to deal with duals on any truck I use for general driving around town.)
What I like about the Grand Design is that their Reflexion bunk house is not one of those 3000 tongue weight/14K dry weight 43' monster 5th wheel trailers. It's more reasonable in weight.
