2500 Dodge vs Ford 5th Wheel Height

    I have a '15 or '16 Dodge 2500 4x4 with factory pucks and a B&W Slider 5th wheel hitch.

My '17 303 with 16" Wheels hitched up sits just barely nose high, but not enough to concern me.

Me and the Dodge have not bonded so I'm considerding a new '17 Ford 350 SRW LWB.

The potential problem I'm concerned about is the Fords additional bed height. The bed floor height is 2" higher and
the top of the bed sides is 3" higher than the Dodge. I know I can adjust the height of my trailer hitch, but then that will cause the
top of the bed clerance to be tighter, which I don't want.

Surly I'm not the first to have this delima...

    Thoughts??

I share your concern about F350 bed height. I measured two '18's, yesterday, both 4x4 and the tailgates were 39.5 and 39.75. The Ford brochure lists the bed height as 39 inches. The sides are 21 inches. My AUH is 17 inches minimum so that puts the pin height at 56 inches. My 2016 F250 4x2 has a bed height of 32 inches and tows my 337 level with the pinbox lowered one set of boltholes.

So it appears that the 4x4 F350's sit about 7 inches taller than my current F250. The big unknown is how much the truck is going to squat. Bottom line is there seems to be a lot of people towing 337's with F350's so I'm going to go for it.

Have a read through this rather long thread (and an older one linked to it).

The 337 is level with the overhang at 61" from the ground. Thus, with 6" of clearance, the truck box rails need to be at 55". In another discussion, it seemed like a loaded 337 would settle the rear of an F350 2 1/2 to 3 inches.

Hi Rob - I remember this thread very well - still wake up in the middle of the night with visions of my 337 about five feet nose high. <G> No matter how I do the math, it just doesn't come out. OTOH, there are a bunch of people on here pulling 337's with F350's and they (apparently) get them level. I've decided to just blindly blither on like I usually do.

My F250 4x2 bed is at 32 inches. The bed rails are 21 inches. The two F350's I measured yesterday were closer to 40 than 39 inches, but let's use Ford's lower spec and the bed rails are 7 inches taller than on my F250. My AUH is at its lowest setting of 17 inches. I do have one more set of bolt holes on the pin box which brings me down to just 6 inches to high. Using the max squat of 3 inches still leaves me 3 inches high.

The only solution is to allow DW to load as much junk in the bedroom as she possibly can (her dream) and get another 3 inches of squat.

So, just like the bumblebee that can't (theoretically) fly, an F350 is to tall to pull a 337.

    Best,

    Hi John,

Can you set the 337 on some blocks in the back of the 350 to see how it levels out? . . . before you buy it!

I may have to talk them in to allowing me an extended test drive if I can't figure out how there are so many 2017 F350's represented on this forum. <G>

So . . . . can someone with a new F350 and Reflection 337 jump in here with pictures or measurements?
