Need Help Norcold 18cu Fridge won't stay cold

I purchased a brand new Solitude 5th wheel back at the end of November this year and it seems like the fridge has never worked properly. I purchased 2 separate thermometers, one for the fridge section and one for the freezer section. I have the cooling setting on 7 and it keeps the fridge normally at 32 degrees but the freezer stays at about 18-20 degrees. If I set it at 9 the freezer goes to 10 degrees and the fridge goes to about 25 degrees. I have been monitoring it and trying to research to see if this is normal that they both won't be at ideal temperatures. Last night we lost power for a minute and I keep the setting on auto so in case power goes out it will automatically switch to gas. Now even at 9 the freezer is at 32 deg and the fridge is at 60 and climbing. Do I have to reset the unit somehow? If so how do I do this? Please help!

PS. I live full-time in this unit with a constant 50 amp shore power and propane.

    Thanks, Dave

32 is too cold for the frig - it will freeze produce and eggs. Consumer Reports says the best frig temp is 37. We adjust ours so the frig stays as close to that as possible and the freezer keeps things frozen (although certainly not the 0 degrees of a true "deep freez"). It's an RV unit, after all. I don't really understand the last part of your post, though. These units are more efficient on gas than electric and I'm not making sense of your situation. Perhaps by turning the unit up so high you have completely frosted the fins in the frig.

Does the monitor show it being on propane or elec? If it's on propane, have you checked your tanks to make sure that you have propane?

An RV refrigerator temp should be between 34F and 43F .

The unit consistently is on electricity. I'm not sure if it automatically switched to gas last night, because I was gone and didn't arrive until afternoon today. At that time it said that it was on electricity and fridge temp was 60 and freezer was 30. The fins in the fridge were completely clear and there was a slight build up of ice on the back middle of the freezer.

Try turning it off for 30 minutes or so and then back on and set it to 7. If that doesn't do anything, there may be a warranty service call in your future.

Unfortunately, turning it off for 30 minutes and back on again didn't work. Nor does it seem to work on just shore power or just propane.

Once an RV refrigerator is at room temperature it's going to need to run 12-15 hours to get back down to operating temperature. An RV refer does not operate like a residential refer.....they take much longer for temperature change. For every one minute somebody stands with the door open on an RV refer it takes one hour to get back down to the temperature it was before it was opened. These are all things that were covered in our RV Maint. Tech. training. I believe at this point you're opening that door to often and for to long a period of time.

I would suggest closing the door and leaving it closed for the day. In the mean time, have you gone outside to make sure that your evaporator fan is working?

    How cold is it outside?

RV refers do not work that well when the temps are very cold outside.

Norcold makes a "cold weather kit" to help.

    Use Google.

So I opened up the access panel from the outside of the unit. I found the motherboard light not on and a yellow oily substance all over the place.

That means you have an ammonia leak.

Will need a new cooling unit.
